So I’ve been trying to make a nice slide-in menu for my portfolio but I’ve been running into this issue where the transition just doesn’t seem to want to apply. My CSS is correct, my HTML is set, and my JavaScript modifies the classes as it should. So why won’t it work? Well, after some time I found out that…
CSS3 transitions won’t apply to hidden elements(display: none) even if you show them and modify the transitioned property(width/height for my case) at the same time. Why this doesn’t apply the transitions I don’t know. Simple solution is to do a JavaScript timeout to then change the transitioned properties after showing the menu. Not what I wanted but it will have to work.
Here’s a jsFiddle to show you - play with the display property on the .grid and you’ll see what happens:
“Let’s talk about something else.”
“Sure, what was it that you wanted to know?”
“Bye.”
ok as well as the majority of civilisation clearly we all lost our manners in the apocalypse as well
